8 October 2026 | Dandora, Nairobi, Kenya | Gender-based violence and child protection | Non-fatal case
An eight-year-old girl was taken to a health centre and placed under protection after neighbours reported an alleged case of female genital mutilation in Dandora, Nairobi.
According to Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations, police and a children’s officer responded to the report at Dandora Phase 2. Investigators said the child had already undergone mutilation. She received medical attention at Dandora Phase 3 Health Centre and was later discharged to a safe home.
Police arrested a 32-year-old woman, the child’s mother, and said she was expected to face charges under laws prohibiting FGM and cruelty to children. The arrest does not establish guilt, and the outcome of any prosecution remains unknown.
The intervention brought the child medical attention and a place of safety. What happens next matters too: her continued protection, recovery and access to justice.
Case record: One reported non-fatal incident; one child victim. Do not identify the child. No conviction reported as of this update.
