Cameroon | Conflict and civilian protection | Research source released 6 October 2026
A new partial register compiled by the Global Campaign for Peace and Justice in Cameroon and the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa lists 4,037 reported deaths associated with the Anglophone conflict between 2016 and early October 2026.
The researchers classify 2,418 as civilians, 426 as people believed to be civilians but not definitively classified, 689 as armed separatists and 504 as defence or security personnel. These are the researchers’ classifications, not independently confirmed Observatory totals.
The list is incomplete. Some identities and circumstances remain uncertain. It should be used to identify leads and compare existing records, not to add 4,037 new deaths to a running tally. Each case needs a separate source and duplicate check.
Behind every record is a person whose death deserves to be documented carefully. Accuracy matters as much as the scale of the loss.
